It was a rainy day in South Florida when my buddy Leo drove me to the train station. From there it was a brief hour and change to the Miami airport where the locals seemed to know I was heading for South America...as they all seemed to be speaking Spanish.

Chapter 2 – Onward to Peru
The trip to the airport was filled with further bumbles as I had opted to take the bus. I had forgotten that you need use a special plastic card to pay for mass transit here. One needs to buy a plastic metro card initially for about a dollar and then charge it up with cash. … Continue reading Chapter 2 – Onward to Peru
Chapter 3- A week in La Paz
The chilly temperatures and high altitude makes for an easy sunburn if you have a fair complexion. The first day wandering around proved this with little doubt. Fortunately a good hat helped a lot. Meandering over to Plaza San Francisco which is a fairly main plaza brought me back to my old stomping grounds. Here… Continue reading Chapter 3- A week in La Paz
Chapter 4 – The Road to Cochabamba
Up early for the trip to the bus station. At the Bus Terminals here you are generally greeted by several hawkers who are trying to get you to take their bus line as opposed to one of the other lines going to the same place. I guess they work on commission. These people can be… Continue reading Chapter 4 – The Road to Cochabamba
Chapter 5 – Cochabamba Night
I guess that was the real problem with the Maya Hostel in Cochabamba. The distance from the downtown area. Price to pay for the peace and quiet I guess. Other then that, it was pretty good, if leaning more to the hotel side than the hostel side of the social common area scale. But then...there… Continue reading Chapter 5 – Cochabamba Night
Chapter 6 – Cochabamba – The City
I guess that I might as well throw in some of the facts paraphrased from the guide book. It has a population of around 600,000 and an elevation of… Continue reading Chapter 6 – Cochabamba – The City
Chapter 7 – The Road to Toro Toro
It was time...it wasn't just because of the late night victory celebration of the basket ball team in the hallway of the Maya Hostel late last night or the fact that it seldom got above 62 degrees in the room...it just felt like it was time to be moving on. After a few days seeing… Continue reading Chapter 7 – The Road to Toro Toro
Chapter 8 – Toro Toro (part 1)
To begin with I hope you all appreciate that no puns involving the name of this National Park have been made. No bull. Forthcoming is the condensed guide book version of the facts about this amazing place. Again this is lifted pretty much straight out of the guidebook:Parque Nacional Toro Toro is one of Bolivia's… Continue reading Chapter 8 – Toro Toro (part 1)
Chapter 8 – Toro Toro (part 2)
Up early to make the per-arranged 7am breakfast date with Rodrigo and Helen. No sign of life from them or the hotel breakfast staff. Waited around a couple of minutes but since we were supposed to be at the tourist office at 7:30am, wandered out to forage some breakfast. Saw a group of locals eating… Continue reading Chapter 8 – Toro Toro (part 2)
9 – Back to Cochabamba
Cochabamba park...note the palm frond the city worker is using as a broom Morning in Toro Toro brought a cold-ish shower and a quick pack when a lady from the bus company came over and told us we could leave an hour earlier if we were ready. Should know by now to not rush packing… Continue reading 9 – Back to Cochabamba
